κριτὴς σοφὸς παιδεύσει τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἡγεμονία συνετοῦ τεταγμένη ἔσται
A wise judge will instruct his people; And the government of a man of understanding shall be well ordered.

κατὰ τὸν κριτὴν τοῦ λαοῦ οὕτως καὶ οἱ λειτουργοὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ κατὰ τὸν ἡγούμενον τῆς πόλεως πάντες οἱ κατοικοῦντες αὐτήν
As is the judge of his people, so are his ministers; And as is the ruler of the city, such are all they that dwell therein.

βασιλεὺς ἀπαίδευτος ἀπολεῖ τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ πόλις οἰκισθήσεται ἐν συνέσει δυναστῶν
An uninstructed king will destroy his people; And a city will be established through the understanding of the powerful.
4
ἐν χειρὶ κυρίου ἡ ἐξουσία τῆς γῆς καὶ τὸν χρήσιμον ἐγερεῖ εἰς καιρὸν ἐπ' αὐτῆς
In the hand of the Lord is the authority of the earth; And in due time he will raise up over it one that is profitable.

ἐν χειρὶ κυρίου εὐοδία ἀνδρός καὶ προσώπῳ γραμματέως ἐπιθήσει δόξαν αὐτοῦ
In the hand of the Lord is the prosperity of a man; And upon the person of the scribe shall he lay his honor.
6
ἐπὶ παντὶ ἀδικήματι μὴ μηνιάσῃς τῷ πλησίον καὶ μὴ πρᾶσσε μηδὲν ἐν ἔργοις ὕβρεως
Be not angry with your neighbor for every wrong; And do nothing by works of violence.
7
μισητὴ ἔναντι κυρίου καὶ ἀνθρώπων ὑπερηφανία καὶ ἐξ ἀμφοτέρων πλημμελὴς ἡ ἀδικία
Pride is hateful before the Lord and before men; And in the judgement of both will unrighteousness err.

βασιλεία ἀπὸ ἔθνους εἰς ἔθνος μετάγεται διὰ ἀδικίας καὶ ὕβρεις καὶ χρήματα
Sovereignty is transferred from nation to nation, Because of iniquities, and deeds of violence, and greed of money.

τί ὑπερηφανεύεται γῆ καὶ σποδός ὅτι ἐν ζωῇ ἔρριψα τὰ ἐνδόσθια αὐτοῦ
Why is earth and ashes proud? Because in his life he has cast away his bowels.

μακρὸν ἀρρώστημα σκώπτει ἰατρός καὶ βασιλεὺς σήμερον καὶ αὔριον τελευτήσει
It is a long disease; the physician mocketh: And he is a king today, and tomorrow he shall die.
11
ἐν γὰρ τῷ ἀποθανεῖν ἄνθρωπον κληρονομήσει ἑρπετὰ καὶ θηρία καὶ σκώληκας
For when a man is dead, He shall inherit creeping things, and beasts, and worms.
12
ἀρχὴ ὑπερηφανίας ἀνθρώπου ἀφίστασθαι ἀπὸ κυρίου καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ ποιήσαντος αὐτὸν ἀπέστη ἡ καρδία αὐτοῦ
It is the beginning of pride when a man departs from the Lord; And his heart is departed from him that made him.

ὅτι ἀρχὴ ὑπερηφανίας ἁμαρτία καὶ ὁ κρατῶν αὐτῆς ἐξομβρήσει βδέλυγμα διὰ τοῦτο παρεδόξασεν κύριος τὰς ἐπαγωγὰς καὶ κατέστρεψεν εἰς τέλος αὐτούς
For the beginning of pride is sin; And he that keeps it will pour forth abomination. For this cause the Lord brought upon them strange calamities, And overthrew them utterly.

θρόνους ἀρχόντων καθεῖλεν ὁ κύριος καὶ ἐκάθισεν πραεῖς ἀντ' αὐτῶν
The Lord cast down the thrones of rulers, And set the meek in their stead.
15
ῥίζας ἐθνῶν ἐξέτιλεν ὁ κύριος καὶ ἐφύτευσεν ταπεινοὺς ἀντ' αὐτῶν
The Lord plucked up the roots of nations, And planted the lowly in their stead.
16
χώρας ἐθνῶν κατέστρεψεν ὁ κύριος καὶ ἀπώλεσεν αὐτὰς ἕως θεμελίων γῆς
The Lord overthrew the lands of nations, And destroyed them to the foundations of the earth.
17
ἐξῆρεν ἐξ αὐτῶν καὶ ἀπώλεσεν αὐτοὺς καὶ κατέπαυσεν ἀπὸ γῆς τὸ μνημόσυνον αὐτῶν
He took some of them away, and destroyed them, And made their memorial to cease from the earth.
18
οὐκ ἔκτισται ἀνθρώποις ὑπερηφανία οὐδὲ ὀργὴ θυμοῦ γεννήμασιν γυναικῶν
Pride has not been created for men, Nor wrathful anger for the offspring of women.
19
σπέρμα ἔντιμον ποῖον σπέρμα ἀνθρώπου σπέρμα ἔντιμον ποῖον οἱ φοβούμενοι τὸν κύριον σπέρμα ἄτιμον ποῖον σπέρμα ἀνθρώπου σπέρμα ἄτιμον ποῖον οἱ παραβαίνοντες ἐντολάς
What manner of seed has honor? the seed of man. What manner of seed has honor? they that fear the Lord. What manner of seed has no honor? the seed of man. What manner of seed has no honor? they that transgress the commandments.

ἐν μέσῳ ἀδελφῶν ὁ ἡγούμενος αὐτῶν ἔντιμος καὶ οἱ φοβούμενοι κύριον ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς αὐτοῦ
In the midst of brethren he that rules them has honor; And in the eyes of the Lord they that fear him.

πλούσιος καὶ ἔνδοξος καὶ πτωχός τὸ καύχημα αὐτῶν φόβος κυρίου
The rich man, and the honorable, and the poor, Their glorying is the fear of the Lord.
23
οὐ δίκαιον ἀτιμάσαι πτωχὸν συνετόν καὶ οὐ καθήκει δοξάσαι ἄνδρα ἁμαρτωλόν
It is not right to dishonor a poor man that has understanding; And it is not fitting to glorify a man that is a sinner.
24
μεγιστὰν καὶ κριτὴς καὶ δυνάστης δοξασθήσεται καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτῶν τις μείζων τοῦ φοβουμένου τὸν κύριον
The great man, and the judge, and the mighty man, shall be glorified; And there is not one of them greater than he that fears the Lord.

οἰκέτῃ σοφῷ ἐλεύθεροι λειτουργήσουσιν καὶ ἀνὴρ ἐπιστήμων οὐ γογγύσει
Free men shall minister to a wise servant; And a man that has knowledge will not murmur thereat.

μὴ σοφίζου ποιῆσαι τὸ ἔργον σου καὶ μὴ δοξάζου ἐν καιρῷ στενοχωρίας σου
Be not over wise in doing your work; And glorify not yourself in the time of your distress.
27
κρείσσων ἐργαζόμενος καὶ περισσεύων ἐν πᾶσιν ἢ περιπατῶν δοξαζόμενος καὶ ἀπορῶν ἄρτων
Better is he that labores, and abounds in all things, Than he that glorifieth himself, and lacketh bread.
28
τέκνον ἐν πραΰτητι δόξασον τὴν ψυχήν σου καὶ δὸς αὐτῇ τιμὴν κατὰ τὴν ἀξίαν αὐτῆς
My son, glorify your soul in meekness, And give it honor according to the worthiness thereof.
29
τὸν ἁμαρτάνοντα εἰς τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ τίς δικαιώσει καὶ τίς δοξάσει τὸν ἀτιμάζοντα τὴν ζωὴν αὐτοῦ
Who will justify him that sins against his own soul? And who will glorify him that dishonors his own life?

πτωχὸς δοξάζεται δι' ἐπιστήμην αὐτοῦ καὶ πλούσιος δοξάζεται διὰ τὸν πλοῦτον αὐτοῦ
A poor man is glorified for his knowledge; And a rich man is glorified for his riches.
31
ὁ δεδοξασμένος ἐν πτωχείᾳ καὶ ἐν πλούτῳ ποσαχῶς καὶ ὁ ἄδοξος ἐν πλούτῳ καὶ ἐν πτωχείᾳ ποσαχῶς
But he that is glorified in poverty, how much more in riches? And he that is inglorious in riches, how much more in poverty?
